Racing enthusiasts applauded the idea. John Burkett of Clio says he would never street-race again if a drag strip were available. Burkett estimated that more than 100 drivers street race in Flint.
Without a local drag strip, many racers resort to racing on the streets, said Burkett, who owns a All Catalytic Converters in Flint.
